Dr. Arvind Kumar
Dr. Arvind Kumar is a member of a select group of world-renowned ROBOTIC AND THORACIC SURGEONS. For almost 30 years, he has made contributions to the field of medical sciences. Dr. Kumar was the first surgeon in India to perform ROBOTIC CHEST SURGERY, beginning in June 2008 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. By dedicating 36 years of ordained service to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, he has set a new standard in the history of medical science. At Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, Dr. Kumar is the Director of the Institute of ROBOTIC SURGERY and the Chairman of the Center for Chest Surgery and Lung Transplantation. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital became Asia’s first hospital to do successful ROBOTIC VASCULAR SURGERy under his leadership and efforts. In 1976, he began his MBBS at AIIMS, New Delhi, and graduated in 1980 with the prestigious best undergraduate of the year (Department of Community Medicine) medal. He stayed at AIIMS as a postgraduate student in Surgery till 1984, when he graduated with a master’s degree in surgery. He was promptly selected as Senior Resident in the Department due to his outstanding performance, which he finished with flying colors in 1988. The path from being a faculty member in 1988 to Professor of Surgery in 2003 and beyond at AIIMS has been filled with professional growth, pride, and fulfillment. Dr. Arvind Kumar picked General Thoracic Surgery as his area of specific focus in the early 1990s and began performing open thoracic surgery on a regular basis for lung and esophageal illnesses. In the mid-1990s, he was the one who pioneered thoracoscopic surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Over the last decade, his expertise has allowed him to see more than 650-700 patients every year, encompassing a wide range of basic and complex thoracoscopy treatments. In 2008, he was the country’s first Thoracic Surgeon to begin a ROBOTIC PROGRAMME at AIIMS. He received ROBOTIC SURGERY Training in Italy for this and performed India’s first ROBOTIC THYMECTOMY SURGERY.

The Association of Surgeons of India was founded in 1938 with the goal of allowing Indian surgeons to share their experiences and improve their surgical abilities. - (Dr.) Arvind Kumar received the “Fakhr-e-Hind” (National Pride) award at the India International Centre in Delhi on January 27, 2019 during an international event “Jashn-e-Bharat” organized by Indian Heritage and Health Care Centre and Husanara Trust.
- The Government of India bestowed the renowned “Dr. B.C. Roy Award” in the category “Eminent Medical Person of the Year” in 2014.

- In 2006, the Raj Nanda Pulmonary Disease Research Trust in collaboration with the British Thoracic Society gave him a “Raj Nanda Fellowship” for 6 months of training in thoracic surgery in the United Kingdom.
