Special cartilaginous tissues, known as menisci, are placed between the two articular ends of the joint. These act as a cushion between the articular surfaces and absorb the shock during movement. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a series of symptoms that typically affect the digestive tract and intestines. IBS is also known as spastic colon, irritable colon, mucous colitis, and spastic colitis. It is a separate condition from inflammatory bowel disease and isn’t related to other bowel conditions. The symptoms vary in severity and duration from person to person. However, they last at least three months for at least three days per month.

According to Ayurveda, IBS falls under the category of a certain disease called grahani which is disturbed functions of the bowels and intestines. Grahani (or duodenum) is the seat of agni (digestive fire). Food is held here until it is completely digested by agni (or digestive fire). After the food is completely digested, it then passes on to the next part of the digestive tract for absorption, but if the Agni is weak, then the food is not completely digested and passes on in a half-digested form. When the food is in a half-digested form, it leads to ama formation. These toxins, or ama, will further combine with normal food leading to problems.

Ama disturbs metabolic processes to form more fatty tissue (MedaDhatu Agni) and blocks the formation of the furthermost tissues such as ashti (bones). The poorly formed tissue layers increase unwanted medadhatu (fats) and cause disturbances in the functions of kapha.

When ama blocks the channels of all body tissues, this creates an imbalance in vata. Vata keeps stimulating the central digestive fire (jatharagni), which causes an increase in appetite so the person eats more and more. However, due to medadhavagnimandya (weak fat metabolism), improper or abnormal medadhatu is formed, which is the root cause of obesity.

Shoulder is made up of three bones that form a ball-and-socket joint. They are your upper arm (humerus), shoulder blade (scapula), and collarbone (clavicle). There’s also tissue surrounding your shoulder joint that holds everything together. This is called the shoulder capsule.

With frozen shoulder, the capsule becomes so thick and tight that it’s hard to move. Bands of scar tissue form and there’s less of a liquid called synovial fluid to keep the joint lubricated. These things limit motion even more.

According to ayurveda, frozen shoulder is described as Apabahuka and it most commonly affects the amsasandhi (shoulder joint). Ayurveda categorizes it as a vatapradhanavyadhi (Disease due to high involvement of vata) that causes pain in the shoulder and severely restricts movements.

However, complications can be prevented by exercising good control of diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol.

As per Ayurveda, there are 20 types of Prameha (Diabetes) which are based on the disorder in the 3 kinds of ‘doshas’ present in our body.
